Jennifer Gillespie’s Comments
These poems came to me late winter/early spring 2004 in Austin. I was reading a lot of the work of David Wevill, my University of Texas graduate creative writing teacher, and Wallace Stevens, and getting exposure to poets such as Brenda Hillman and Jean Valentine in my poetic studies seminar with Marie Howe. I think the consumption of such innovative poets streamed into the aesthetic of this batch of poems. I became freer with my voice and more experimental with image and allusion.
