Martin Galvins Comments
Each of these poems started from something I read or
saw or remembered. Like many poets, I trusted that affectionate side of the
brain to find my way for me. The fiction in the poems starts from a
subconscious response to the scene or story, so I guess it reveals more
about me than the making process. Each one of them, too, went through
many drafts. Sandburg’s place outside of Asheville, N.C., is a lovely
place to absorb; I’d be happy to respond to any particular poem and
its genesis if you would e-mail me at Galvin1@starpower.net. To say more would
be to invite some restlessness or boredom, things which poets abhor as much
as readers do.
