E. Martin Pedersen’s Comments

“Camping with Charlie”: A particularly sentimental poem, from at least twenty years ago. Different, I suppose, from so much poetry nowadays based on cleverness and obscurity. If poetry’s a treasure hunt, don’t make the clues too hard.

“Being Chased”: I saw a pack of these wild African dogs (Lycaon pictus) in a zoo, and they permanently creeped me out. Otherwise pure paranoia.

“I AM THE URGE”: A power chant, for mountain-top screaming, use as needed. Written at U.C. Santa Cruz.

Surprised by joy, impatient: Title from Mr. Wordsworth, about sex, perhaps.

“Am I breathing gas?”: A dream, told as is. But you knew that.
