William Walker’s Comments

I met Soapie in Portland, Oregon. I tried to tell this story for years, but I couldn’t figure it past the fact that I put myself into some terrible situations. There remains a trace of some attempt at Joseph Conrad in there if you’re looking.

I was playing around with Conrad in “Travel Advisory“ as well. There’s a bit of John Bunyan. And I was thinking about Elizabeth Smart and some experiences I’ve had with perverts.

“Human Resources” is almost exactly the email I sent when Wanda took me into confidence.

Together, they form the sort of tryptic I imagine placing into my son’s backpack as he goes off to sleepaway camp for the first time. Dear Son: When you get a chance. Just a few things Dad’s gleaned about life along the way.
