What Is Osmosis?
David Starkey
Place any two gases side by side,
they mix. The same is true of liquids.
In Osmosis, these things pass through spaces
between a membrane’s molecules.
Think of it this way:
Pyramus and Thisbe whispering
through a crack in the garden wall—
desperate words of love.
Pyramus is the digested food,
Thisbe the bloodstream.
Or this: The Berlin Wall, 1970.
Hippie artists spray painting messages
of cynicism on one side; guards patrolling
with machine guns on the other.
The lungs, the lungs, and carbon dioxide.
